Barbie Movie

Today I went and saw the Barbie movie with my eldest daughter. Of course, I needed to wear pink. Love this jacket, had it for years. It is a Paul Smith pink velvet jacket. The sandals are from Lemonade. If you want anything sparkly this is the place to go and they are very reasonably priced.

But I wanted to talk about the movie. Feels a little wrong to be talking about what I wore and my shoes after watching the movie. Everybody should see it. It is a bit of an eye opener, promise I won’t do a spoiler. It really makes you think about the whole concept of a patriarch and matriarch and specifically how women are perceived. Not just by men but also by women. We are our own worse enemy. The fine line that we are expected to navigate is ridiculous.

I am sure that some of you will be saying well, why are you posting pictures of your outfits and shoes. Because I want people to see me as me. Pictures when I am dressed up, pictures when I am running, pictures going to the cinema. At the end of the day it is ok to wear what you want, when you want. Within reason, there are definitely times when you need to wear things that are suitable for the situation, especially if there is a dress code. I personally like dressing up, wearing things that make me smile, slapping on some makeup to make my eyes pop. The key is I do it because I like to. Yes I like that it makes my husband smile and I get some lovely comments, but fundamentally I like how it makes me feel.

That is why I bought these shoes. They are very sparkly and pink and the jingle when you walk. They are also very comfortable to walk in, especially with bunions. They have some support at the heel and they are slightly more substantial than a flip flop. This is one of the great examples that if the shoe fits, as I also have this in silver.

I will sign off now, but I would say go and see the Barbie Movie and then think about what you are thinking or saying when you are judging the way that others look. I am guilty of this and am starting to stop and question myself. We should, within reason, be able to wear what we like without being judged. I say within reason, as we do have decency laws and rules that we have to abide by in our society.
