As we get into winter I thought I would blog about coats and jackets. These are the item of clothing that
we tend to give the least time contemplating, but can make or break an outfit. But the jacket or coat is not just a fashion item it also has a specific purpose. To keep us warm, to keep us dry, to keep us dry and cool, to keep out the wind and sometimes to complete an outfit.
My most practical coats/jackets are my running/horse riding/dog walking ones. I have multiple rain coats, mainly from Raab, of different thicknesses. The only thing I find, if I wear my waterproof running I get hot and then sweat from the inside. Not great, which is why most time I don’t bother. My favourite dog walking/horse riding jacket is the one I
bought on Queen Mary 2 in 2019. It is a man’s jacket so it is huge but that helps cause you can wear warm jackets underneath. It is warm and keeps me dry.I have collected many coats and jackets over the years; puffy ones, wool ones, fleecy ones, leopard print, large circle patterns, pink, blue, black, brown ones. I match my coat with my outfit. Of course, the one that everyone should have is a pink fluffy one. When the girls were young we were in a car club and had access to lots of different luxury sports cars. My eldest had a beautiful pink fluffy coat and she is wearing it when she strode purposefully towards a bright orange Lamborghini. So when I had the opportunity to buy a pink fluffy jacket from Lipsy London, I couldn’t resist. Though am still waiting for my Lamborghini.
The thing when buying coats is often it is good idea to by a size up from your usual. This way you can wear them over jumpers or business jackets. Saying that though don’t go too big, you don’t want your coat to look like a tent. Having some tailoring is good for the silhouette. As usual the time to buy the best coats is in the January sales as shops are moving onto spring already. Look for the deals so you can buy a couple and they will last longer. One company who I feel have a great choice of coats at reasonable prices is Joe Browns. Above is my purple velvet coat with a peacock pattern. The fur collar adds a touch of class and finishes of the coat perfectly. These are not necessarily long term coats, but they are very pretty. They also have some amazing jackets too. So check them out.
