To tights or not to tights that is the question

COLD KNEES

Thought I would bring it back to fashion this week with a discussion on tights.

I hate them.

Wow that was a short blog. No seriously I hate them, I have never got on with them and so stopped wearing them many many years ago. But am I doing them a disservice, have things changed, can people help me with this age old problem.

I do like hold ups and have worn them, but find that they aren’t great if your skirt is either too short or is too tight (you can see the lacy top). So I find most of the time I don’t bother. This means in these cold winter months I have very cold knees. I wear my dresses with boots, with no tights. Weirdly I do have a big bag of stockings, hold ups and tights which I can never bring myself to through away, but also never wear.

I always have these memories of struggling to put them on. They would normal catch on the smallest imperfection of my nails, meaning I would go through 3 pairs before actually managing to get them on without ladders. They also never seemed to be the right size for me. Maybe I was just weird, but they never seemed to be comfortable around my thighs and they were never long enough. Once on I always tended to have that thing where the gusset was about 2 inches below were it should be and no amount of pulling was going to make any difference. Usually at this point I would then ladder them trying to pull them up. Did anyone else do that tricker of putting another pair of knickers on to keep them from falling down. Or if they were the pairs with a built in gusset you wore your knickers over the top. Maybe that was just me, or an Essex thing.

What is it with the tights that have the darker section at the top which I could never get up far enough so it was not seen under my ridiculously short skirts. Which I think is another reason why I stopped wearing them. That part of the tights should never be seen, a bit like ladies ankles in the Victorian era.

Of course, hubby likes the whole idea of the suspenders and belt and I did use to wear them, but was it me or were they really uncomfortable too. You had to have them quite fitting around the waist so they didn’t fall down but then they would cut the circulation off if too tight. I never found them the least bit practical to actually wear to go out, but maybe that is the point 😉.

Thankfully not many pictures this week as no-one wants to see me in tights, hold-ups or suspenders.

So my question to you all is what am I doing wrong? How do I get the perfect fit for me? Has anyone tried those new fleece lined leggings that look like skin coloured tights? I have so many questions and I am hoping that you can share some of your thoughts and recommendations.

Thanks for your help,

Lois
