I love sunglasses. Do I love them more than shoes? I am not really sure. I certainly do not have as many pairs of glasses as I have shoes. But I do love sunglasses shopping. I also am a bit weird as I believe that my sunglasses should coordinate with the outfit as much as possible. Of course, the obligatory black pair will go with most things but then I do like other colours. So I do havre many different makes and colours.
What do I look for in a good pair of sunglasses? I like something a little different and with some bling. Though not too much and not over stated. There is a fine line between classy and crass. Too much in the glasses takes away from the overall look of the outfit, but too little and they are just boring. It is also a matter of what suits and it is important to work out what fits your style of face. I quite like big sunglasses, for my shape of face it works for me. Also as I have gotten older the big glasses fits over the top of my glasses I need to wear to see, so has some benefits if they are big.
The brands I like are any, but have Gucci, Bvlgari, D&G, Prada and many others. My favourite are my glasses that remind me of the Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast in Tiffany, which are classic, black with a little bling on the arms. I think that is my thing, I like a little twist in my glasses and it is usually on the arms. So a few little diamonds lifts a pair of glasses. Interestingly hair colour is also important. The white pair of glasses worked well when I was blonde, but when I went back to brunette they did look different. I still wear them as I like them, and being white they go with anything, so always good.
The story behind my sunglasses is that I always buy a new pair when I go on holiday on a plane, at the airport. It become a thing with my kids that mummy had to go to the sunglasses shop for her latest purchase. Always good for getting those bargains, though always quite a lot of money. However, as I have so many they don’t tend to wear out and last for a long time, so it’s worth it. Or should I say I am.
Of course, this tactic doesn’t always go to plan. In 2002 I went on holiday with some friends to Canada and as we were at the airport I needed to buy some sunglasses. So I go off on my own and buy a pair (can’t remember which ones) and then head to the gate to meet up with family and friends. As I got to the gate I got out my passport when I realised I didn’t have my boarding pass. The lady at the shop had taken it to verify my purchase and hadn’t given it back to me. They had to hold the plane as a nice man on one of those buggies raced across Heathrow airport to deliver my boarding pass to me at the gate. The looks of those on the planes were daggers as we, 4 adults and 3 kids got on to the plane. But I ignored them as I we went up the stairs and headed to the front of the plane. My husband never lets me forget this, and I know do not take responsibility for my boarding pass, unless I am travelling alone.
Anyway, this year is the first year in very many years in which I am flying from Heathrow for our holiday this year so I am looking forward to finding another bargain. Let’s hope there is something that I like.
Thanks
Lois
